Role Overview

ActionAid seeks to employ a Head of Human Resources and Organisational Development and Administration (HRODA to provide strategic leadership and overall coordination and management of the human resources and organizational development and administrative function of ActionAid Malawi (AAM). The Head shall ensure development, implementation and alignment of resources policies, procedures and systems for the ActIonAld Malawi to the Country Strategic Plan, ActionAid Global HROD framework and Standards and compliance with all local labour laws and other statutory requirements in Malawi. In addition, the Head shall be responsible for supervision of information technology, procurement and logistics functions in the organisation.

The Head of HRODA is expected to ensure strategic human resource management, organizational efficiency and effectiveness though participation in decision making, advising management and the Board on the human resources, organization development, Information Technology and administrative issues in the organisation, communication and implementation of agreed upon decisions. The Head of HROD/Administration is a member of the Country Leadership Team reporting to the Executive Director.

Roles and Responsibilities

Strategic Human Resource Management

Development, implementation and interpretation of Human Resource strategies, policies, procedures and systems that are consistent and in harmony with the Malawi labour laws, Global HR/OD framework and other AAM policies
Formulation and implementation of human resource strategies and plans that are aligned to country strategy paper and priorities,
Management of manpower planning, recruitment, selection, induction, orientation, confirmation, promotion, disciplinary and termination processes within AAM,
Development and implementation of performance management systems for all staff in AAM including facilitation of performance appraisal, provision of feedback and initiation of corrective actions;
Formulation and implementation of remuneration strategy, policies and procedures’ including muting payment of salaries and benefits to employees, carrying out regular reviews to ensure external competitiveness and internal equity;
Development and implementation of employee welfare and wellness services including medical schemes, insurance, security, pension and work life balance,
Facilitation of training needs assessment, staff naming and development;
Formulation and implementation of human resource information systems and ensuring accuracy, security and availability of information thereof; and
Implementation of global and regional HR initiatives

Qualifications, Skills and Competencies

Have a Master’s degree in Organization Development /Human Resource Management/Strategic Management or an MBA oi its equivalent from a recognized University;
Have at least ten (10) years working experience in human resource management/ organisation development function in an INGO or a large organization of which at least five (5) years must have been at senior management position,
Been a member of relevant professional body e.g IHRM, ICPS, etc. will be an added advantage
Has good knowledge of Malawi labour laws and employee relations systems;
Proven experience in leading, supporting and motivating staff and teams.
Strong conceptual, analytical, mitten, presentation and negotiation skills;
Excellent management leadership, planning and prioritization skills,
High degree of integrity, dependability and confidentiality;
Good interpersonal and communication skills coupled with ability to influence. negotiate, advice, mentor and train’
Multi tasking skills and ability to think strategically; and
High level of IT proficiency in use of MS Wotd, Excel, Access, Power point, e-mail, DTP packages

Senior Data Officer

 Senior Data Officer
The Public Health Nutrition and Child development (PHNCD) group is implementing several research studies in Mangochi and Blantyre focusing on interventions to prevent maternal and child nutrition. The group has ongoing studies on nutritional supplementation of infants and young children, studies on environmental enteric dysfunction, nutrition-infection relationships and child development. The group has the following open position to be filled urgently.

Duration: 24 months

Location: Mangochi with significant local travel

The Data Manager, reporting the Principal Investigator, will be responsible for the day-to-day data management of the project data and will be responsible for a team of Data Officers. Additionally, the Data manager will provide liaison between the Project Scientists and the Project Stasticians and Consultants.

Key responsibilities

To develop and enhance programs to perform routine data management procedures (for design and validation of databases).
To design and implement efficient procedures to identify data recording and data entry errors (differences) and facilitate relevant amendments to Case Record Forms and corrections to databases.
To routinely monitor data auditing, and report any data access violations, suspicious editions, insertions, updates and deletions.
To routinely report on databases status and produce simple summary statistics on data when requested by Principal Investigators or the Project Statisticians.
To design and run programs to track study participants visits and flag any overdue visits as requested by PIs.
To assist Principal investigators in the design of their Case Report Forms
To supervise data entry, producing fortnightly reports on data entry activities
To oversee and ensure best practice in the design and documentation of electronic databases to be used for data entry and ensure that data auditing is operational
To ensure that queries concerning data recorded on Case Report Forms and other research data documents are raised and resolved efficiently and promptly
To ensure that data processing duties are assigned/ prioritized to meet agreed requirements of projects
To introduce and update Standard Operating Procedures for data processing and ensure that Data Officers are familiar with these procedures and that they are fully adhered to
To oversee the maintenance of Case Record Forms, other research data documents and Project Data Management files in a documented and orderly manner both within The Data Office and the Data Archive.
To train Data Officers with the Project in data processing and data management skills as required
Qualifications:

BSc with credit majoring in Computer Science or bioinformatics or Information Systems
At least 3 years data management experience
Be familiar with Microsoft Access, Microsoft SQL 2000 server, Windows 2000 Domain, and Programming languages
Excellent written and spoken English
Experience with STATA and Open data Kit an asset.

Job Summary

The Research Nurses, reporting to the Principal Investigator, will be responsible for the day-to-day management of clinical data collection and other activities associated with the implementation of clinical trials testing efficacy of LNS for infants and young children and pregnant and lactating mothers.

Key responsibilities

Conducting questionnaire based guided interviews and clinical examination of infants and children enrolled in the research project
Collecting laboratory specimens from enrolled infants and young children and pregnant and lactating mothers
Collecting anthropometric data from enrolled infants and young children, pregnant and lactating mothers
Maintaining accurate and confidential records for all enrolled participants
Assisting enrolled participants to access medical care
Assisting in general delivery of clinical care to patients at the study clinics as requested by the Principal Investigator
Carrying out other administrative duties as requested by the Principal investigator or other investigators
Qualifications:

Degree or Diploma in Nursing and midwifery
Current registration with Nurses and Midwives Council of Malawi
Proven experience in field-based research in Malawi
Fluent in Chichewa or Chiyao and excellent written and spoken English
Possession of certificate in counselling, conduct of clinical research or research ethics will be an advantage.
