PROGRAM OFFICERS (2 POSTS)

 JICA is a technical cooperation arm of the Japanese Government responsible for providing technical assistance in developing countries. In Malawi JICA has, among others, projects in sectors like Agriculture & Irrigation, Transport& Infrastructure Water, Energy & Natural Resources, Education and Volunteer program. Currently there are two vacancies for Program Officers as indicated below however, successful candidates must be prepared to be periodically rotated to any other section to deepen experience in program management.

Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is inviting applications from interested persons to fill two vacant posts of Program Officers

The successful candidates will be expected:

To provide general administrative and logistical support to JICA office management systems, Project management, Missions and Personnel.
To collect and analyze relevant information that can help in promoting JICA activities in Malawi.
To provide support to section heads on any administrative issues that require his/her involvement.
To implement PDCA cycle in particular section and the whole office.
Attend and report on country sector meetings with other development partners in the country
Represent JICA as a contact person in particular sectors in Malawi
Any other duties as may be reasonably assigned by the Resident Representative from time to time.

Qualifications and experience.

Applicants for the post must have the following qualifications and qualities:

A relevant Degree or equivalent preferably in Social Sciences, Development studies, Business Administration, Human resource, and Management studies at University level
At least Five (5) years progressive working experience after university qualification with 3 years in one organization, and conversant with Malawi’s development and administrative issues.
Good working experience and abilities in accounting and procurement
Not older than 35 years of age
Good knowledge of computers and packages like word, excel, and power point.
Must be fluent in English (both written and spoken) and at least one local language.
Must have some knowledge of donor approaches to development issues of developing countries
Ability to work in a team and in a multicultural environment is required.
Broad knowledge of current cultural, social, economic and political issues, and a good understanding of the context of development work in Malawi is essential.
Must have “can-do attitude in any type of task

REQUIREMENTS

The successful candidates will be offered YEARLY contracts that will be renewed annually upon mutual agreement by the parties. Remuneration will be in the range of K350,000.00 to K500,000.00 per month tax free including all benefits commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Malawi-Liverpool-Wellcome (MLW) Programme (http://www.mlw.medcol.mw) is an internationally recognised centre for research and research training, funded by the Wellcome Trust in collaboration with the University of Malawi, College of Medicine (COM). MLW would like to engage the services of competent and dynamic individuals to work in the Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine Acceleration (TyVAC) vaccine vial within the MEW Research facility in the following position:-

Programme Manager -1 post, based in Blantyre, for 3 years

Job Summary

Reporting to the Principle Investigator (PI) the successful candidate will provide project management level administrative and technical support for a large typhoid vaccine trial involving vaccination of 24,000 children in Blantyre, and related projects and work.

Key responsibilities

Oversee the day-to day aspects of the running of the clinical trial.Line-manage team leaders, plan procurement and supplies, financial and budget managementFacilitate communications between the study team and all relevant stakeholders and collaborators.Maintain project records according to the study protocol and MLW procedures

Qualifications and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in project management or related. A Master-level degree in these areas will be an added advantage.Experience in co- ordination and management of clinical trials.Excellent communication skills, organisational ability and attention to detailDemonstrated effective team leadership, management of staff and ability to network, build and maintain external partnerships/relationships

CLINICAL TRIAL COORDINATOR

Clinical Trial Coordinator -1 post, based in Blantyre, initial one-year contract with possibility for extension to 3 years.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Principle Investigator (PI) the successful candidate will take responsibility for a large study team and will coordinate the conduct of the typhoid conjugate vaccine trial, involving vaccination of 24,000 children in Blantyre, and related projects and work. The incumbent will provide independent managerial leadership and technical support to the study teams

Key responsibilities

Provide supervision ant management of clinical and field teams to identify, screen, consent, recruit and conduct all relevant procedures on eligible study participants.Provide staff training in study related areas.Liaise with several institutional review boards and ethics committees in Malawi, in the UK and the United States of America.Conduct staff appraisal and making relevant recommendations to the human resource office in liaison with relevant principal investigators.Institute internal controls for the effective and efficient use of resources.

Qualifications and Experience:

Bachelor of Nursing/Midwifery, Diploma in Clinical Medicine, Bachelor of Medicine/Surgery or Master of Public Health. MSc in the above disciplines is desirable.Significant experience managing large-scale clinical research project.Experience in data management and Good Clinical Practice.Excellent communication skills.Demonstrated effective team leadership and management of staff.
