| Head of Fundraising and Communications
Role Overview
The person will support the programme in media advocacy and documentation of evidence for advocacy; and development of an effective fundraising strategy to maximize ActionAid’s visibility and income.The individual will spearhead the identification of project funding and the development of project proposals, in line with ActionAid Malawi strategic objectives. S/he coordinates the development and maintenance of partnerships, Projects fundraising and Communications with a diverse range of funding agencies like ActionAid International Affiliates for Project, Foundations, Trusts, and High Value Individual, Corporate, Bilateral and Multilateral donors. Responsible for building a strong and credible profile, image and reputation for the organisation through effective, creative and innovative communications of the organisation’s work to external and internal audiences; Initiating, driving and supporting change through communications and campaign initiatives in favour of poor and excluded people. She/he will be repotting to the Executive Director.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Develops and supports implementation of Resource Mobilisation and Communication strategies in line with CSP strategic objective, local and international priorities.
Carry out donor intelligence/scoping and identification of new donors and explore and identify potential funding opportunities
Develop and enhance staff and partner capacity in fundraising and contract management
Provides oversight of Sponsorship fundraising, all donor funded projects and manage donor contracts in line with ActionAid Malawi, ActionAid International and donor/supporter requirements
Identify, develop and maintain strategic partnerships with key donors
Work jointly with the Programmes team to influence donors on their funding approaches, quality and quantity of aid towards development in Malawi
Support/Coordinate national and regional programme teams in developing concept notes and Funding proposals.
Enhance Designing, Branding and Documentation of ActionAid Malawi Profiles, Brochures, and Reports, fundraising and learning materials across the organisation.
Work, with the projects and programme teams to continuously report through the media and communication channels
Nurture and build relationships with media and publicize organizational events and publications
Works with the IT Unit to establish and update the ActionAid Malawi’s website and showcase ActionAid Malawi work in line with ActionAid International policy and strategy
Participate in the Accountability, Learning, Planning Systems (ALPS) processes as they relate to the country program e.g. Participatory Review and Reflections Processes, peer reviews, country appraisals, etc.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
A professional of postgraduate qualification in communications, public relation, marketing or journalism horn a recognised University
Bachelors Degree in Marketing, journalism, Arts or Communication
Have at least ten (10) years working experience in Fundraising and communication an International Non-Governmental Organisation or a large organizaton of which at least five (5) years must have been at senior management position;
Experience in Fundraising, Campaign, and Partnership development In depth knowledge of current debates and thinking on Development themes, Media, Communication
Good contacts and relationships with Donors, Civil Society, Media, NGO, Government and movement,
Knowledge of international and regional instruments. structures, and organizations used for promotion and protection of Partnership, Fundraising, Campaign and Communication.
A strong working knowledge of a wide range of fundraising approaches including appeals, community, corporate and trusts
A sound understanding of communications and marketing within the not-for-profit sector
Leadership skills and the ability to inspire donors, supporter, partners and staff
Hands on experience in developing aHands on experience in developing and managing fundraising databases
Key Competences
Excellent command of oral and written English and ability to communicate complicated or technical information to range of audiences
Demonstrable understanding of the fundamentals of communications, including message formulation, audience identification, scheduling, tactical channel selection and evaluation.
Excellent interpersonal and networking skills, demonstrable track !mud of interacting with and influencing range of internal and external contacts at all level,
A creative, innovative and forward thinker
Documentation, reporting, materials development & Publishing
Strong conceptual, analytical, documentation and presentation skills;
Excellent management, leadership, planning and prioritization skills coupled with ability to influence, negotiate, advice, mentor and train,
High degree of integrity, dependability and confidentiality;
Ability to work independently and be self-motivated,
High level of IT proficiency in use of MS Word, Excel, Access, Power point, and e mail.
