JOB FUNCTION

To ensure that the mechanical parts of motor vehicles, including the engine, transmission and suspension systems are properly maintained by repairing, reassembling, restoring and overhauling their components and provide mechanical advice to motor vehicle users.

DUTIES

To carry out preventive maintenance such as, engine tune-ups, oil changes, tire rotation and changes, replacing fitters.
To maintain vehicle functional condition by conducting inspections, repairing engine failures, repairing mechanical systems malfunctions, replacing parts and components.
Advising motor vehicle users on vehicle mechanical issues
Verifying vehicle serviceability by conducting test dives, adjusting controls and systems.
Liaising with garages on maintenance of vehicles and following up on the same
Ensuing compliance with government vehicle requirements by testing engine. safety, and general standards for Certificate of Fitness (COF).
Maintaining vehicle records by recording service and repairs.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

MSCE with Grade 1 Motor Vehicle Mechanic or equivalent
Minimum of 3 years experience in busy motor vehicle workshop

A vacancy has risen in the Editorial Department and we are currently looking for a high performing individual with a self-starter attitude to fill up the position of Assistant Editor for Malawi News tenable at Head Office in Blantyre.

NATURE OF WORK

This is a senior post in the newsroom and the individual is expected to drive editorial production strategy of Malawi News, a mature newspaper brand for Saturday and he/she will lead a highly motivated and diverse team at the biggest media house in Malawi.

CONSULTANCY: SHORT-TERM LABORATORY SUPPLY CHAIN CONSULTANT – SUPERVISION TOOL DEVELOPMENT

 Chemonics seeks a short-term laboratory supply chain consultant to provide technical support to the Department of Health Technical Support Services – Diagnostics (HTSS-D) of the Malawi Ministry of Health for the USAID Global Health Supply Chain Program – Procurement and Supply Management (GHSC-PSM) project. The purpose of GHSC-PSM is to ensure uninterrupted supplies of health commodities in support of U.S. government-funded public health initiatives around the world. The project provides direct procurement and supply chain management support to the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), the President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI), and Population and Reproductive Health. The laboratory supply chain consultant will provide technical support to the HTSS-D to improve management of (primarily HIV) laboratory supplies in Malawi with a focus on strengthening the supportive supervision for facility-level laboratory staff involved in the management of laboratory commodities. The assignment will entail a number of pre-trip, in-country, and post-trip activities over a period of approximately 44 working days, from July to September, 2017.

Conduct a desk review to understand Malawi’s supply chain context and challenges specifically related to laboratory commodities, including a review of Malawi’s laboratory standard operating procedures (SOPs)
Collaborate with in-country GHSC-PSM project staff to develop laboratory supply chain supportive supervision tools based on the Malawi laboratory SOPs
Develop a supervisor’s guide for applying the supportive supervision tools
Develop a training manual and materials to train supervisors in the application of the supervision tools
Work with in-country GHSC-PSM project staff to plan a training workshop for selected laboratory supervisors in applying the supervision tools
Collaborate with in-country GHSC-PSM project staff to train approximately 35 central and district-level laboratory supervisors in applying the supervision tools while building the capacity of selected staff to deliver future training sessions
Update the supervision tools and training materials, as required, based on training delivery results
Prepare a training report with recommendations for ongoing capacity building for the trained laboratory supervisors

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in laboratory technology, laboratory services management, or related area of study preferred; master’s degree in supply chain management, medicine, public health, or related field preferred
At least 5 years of relevant professional experience, including providing technical assistance on strengthening laboratory supply chain systems in the developing country context
Experience in designing training curriculums and training materials based on an adult learning approaches
Demonstrated experience carrying out related or similar tasks in Malawi or in Southern Africa preferred
Demonstrated experience in producing high-quality written reports
Demonstrated workshop facilitation and adult training skills
Ability to clearly and concisely express ideas and concepts convincingly in written and oral form
Experience with donor-funded programs or working with international organizations

PROJECT OFFICER

 Basic function of the Job

The Project Officer shall coordinate all activities of the “Stand Up for Adolescents project” in Malawi He or She shall collaborate with the district health office, district council and other partners in the course of project implementation The incumbent shall ensure that the project is implemented according to the expected standards, as defined by the donor and MoH within the given timeframe (4 years 7 months) The Project Officer shall be based in Mangochi district and shall report directly to the RMNCAH Manager. This position requires extensive collaboration with influential leaders and community structures with 65f the time being spent in the communities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities will include, but not limited to the following.

Lead the implementation of the “Stand Up for Adolescents” in Malawi” in collaboration with other stakeholders in Mangochi district
Build the capacity of youth clubs, community structures (ADC, VDC, CBOs etc) and community leaders in implementation of the Stand Up for Adolescents in Malawi
Support the implementation of youth friendly health services (YFHS) in the targeted sites in Machinga district mitigate the impact of the health consequences of child marriages.
Organize community sensitization meetings, and open days targeting custodians of culture in targeted communities
Strengthen community systems ensuring that all necessary community structures are functional and united to fight teenage pregnancies and child marriages
Manage project activity budgets, including processing relevant financial transactions and ensuring financial accountability and transparency
Collaborate with stakeholders at community and district levels to address the challenge of teenage pregnancy and child marriages
Monitor and evaluation of project activities including: collecting, analyzing and utilization of data to inform policy and practice
Compile project reports according to donor requirements.
Document lessons learnt, case studies, and best practices and share with all the stakeholders

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND KEY COMPETENCIES REQUIRED

Degree in Community Health Nursing (most preferred), Public Health, or any other health related field
3 years minimum working experience especially dealing with young people, and community structures.
Proficient in use of Microsoft software packages like M, knowledge of financial software packages is a MUST.
Strong Analytical skills and Good Communication skills
Ability to multi task, independent, mature and capable to work under time-pressure and with minimal supervision.
Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills and Excellent customer relationship skills
Excellent skills to operate and work with various computing applications
