STAR PROGRAM MANAGER

 PSI Malawi is a member of PSI international who is a global health organization dedicated to improving the health of people in the developing world by focusing on serious challenges like a lack of family planning, HIV and AIDS, barriers to maternal health, and the greatest threats to children under five, including malaria, diarrhea, pneumonia and malnutrition.

Star Program Manager

Duties and Responsibilities

Develop, implement and monitor detailed STAR work plan

Monitor and control project expenditure

Develop monthly and quarterly project progress reports

Work hand in hand with the Social Marketing & Research team

Work hand in hand with the Malawi Liverpool Welcome Trust for all research activities management

Establish and manage STAR hotline

Ensure adequate community liaison and buy in

Plan and oversee implementation of trainings for community-based distribution agents (CDBA) and peer educators in HIV oral fluid tests

Supervise M&E Officers

Ensure that quarterly routine data quality assessments are undertaken

Liaise with RH, SF and HIV teams for progress review and planning purposes

Manage project commodities and program income and implement STAR activities

Participate in MOH technical and donor meetings

Provide administrative assistance during STAR meetings/events/trainings/activities

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

Relevant graduate degree (Public health, Nursing, Social sciences) and at least five years of relevant professional experience.

Prior HIV program implementation and supervisory experience required

Experience in HIV project management with NGOs a preference
Skills and Knowledge

Clear understanding of the Malawian HIV epidemic and operating environment

Experience with different donor reporting requirements and procedures

Strong presentation and facilitation skills

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Fluency in English.

Willingness to travel approximately 30f the time

Be self-starter, effective team player and demonstrated verifiable result-oriented track record

CONSULTANCY: FACILITATOR FOR SOCIAL PROTECTION CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT

 Terms of Reference

(Individual) Facilitator for Social Protection Curriculum Development

1. Introduction
The Government of Malawi through Magomero College, with financial support from GIZ, is seeking to hire an individual qualified in curriculum development to facilitate the development of the Integrated Social Protection Curriculum. The mandate of Magomero College is to provide capacity building programmes for community development, social work and related programmes for government ministries, district councils, civil society organisations (CSOs) and other partners. This person, upon recruitment, will facilitate the process of coming up with the curriculum, in liaison with Magomero College, the technical team (from the different social protection sub-programmes), curriculum writers and other stakeholders.

2. OBJECTIVES

2.1. Main objective

To facilitate the development of a Social Protection Integrated Curriculum for training a frontline social protection workforce in Malawi
3. Desired Facilitator Profile

Minimum of master’s degree in education (curriculum development)
At least four years of relevant experience in curriculum development
Strong facilitation skills
Knowledge of social protection programmes in Malawi
Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team
Ability to communicate effectively using written and presentation skills
Ability to facilitate workshops involving several stakeholders
Good time management skills are a prerequisite
4. Timeline
The work is expected to be completed in 30 working days and to be executed from July until September 2017.

HEALTH SYSTEMS ADVOCACY MANAGER

 Basic function of the Job:

The Policy Project Manager reports to the Head of Programmes. He/She focuses on building advocacy portfolio for the country program generally and specifically to improve human resources for health, reproductive health and rights and increased health financing In consultation with the Head of Programmes.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities will include, but not limited to the following.

Program Implementation / Work plan oversight: Leads annual planning on advocacy and for the HSA project for the country; supports all projects to mainstream advocacy, oversees timely HSA work plan implementation, and ensures synergy between HSA and the different projects, both existing and pipeline, in planning and implementation of advocacy. Further, the manager ensures efficiency and effectiveness in the implementation of project in a timely manner
Budget monitoring: In collaboration with finance units develops annual advocacy and HSA budgets, guides implementers on donor and organizational financial policies, ensures value for money, enhances accountability in use of funds
Technical support: Scans the policy environment for heath financing, HRH and RH commodities, develops systems and processes for translating knowledge into policy, comes up with advocacy strategies, builds capacity and provides technical support to Amref staff & partners on advocacy to implement their advocacy plans.
Documentation and reporting: Ensures that advocacy activities are monitored, evaluated and reported. Compiles activity reports and ensures finely and quality donor reports based on the donor contractual agreements Does documentation of lessons learnt from the projects and disseminates results widely
Oversight of adherence to internal systems: In consultation with the Finance Unit ensures adherence to internal systems by ensuring that standard operating procedures for program implementation are adhered to including travel policy, procurement and asset management procedures HR procedures and financial systems.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND KEY COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

A social science, public policy or law degree and advanced degree in Health Policy, Health Management, Global Health, Public Health or related fields
5 years relevant expenence in multi-country programming human resources for health advocacy, reproductive health and rights and knowledge of policy issues on reproductive health commodities.
Experience in project management with proven track record in program planning, management, budgeting, supervision, documentation and reporting.
Experience and knowledge of Malawi Health Systems is an added advantage
Demonstrated team leader with excellent communication skills
Technically sound in health systems strengthening
Able to network, mobilize stakeholders and rally them towards a common course
Good interpersonal skills and ability to develop respectful, positive relationships with a range of partners including policymaker and health care leaders,
Able to twill and work with networks
Well organized, results focused, creative and flexible

YOUNG PEOPLE FOR DEMOCRACY ESSAY WRITING COMPETITION

Does Malawi have a culture? What is Malawi’s culture? Who defines it and how must it be preserved in a manner that is sustainable? These are some of questions that the Free Expression Institute (FEI) would like young people in Malawi to think about and critique in this year Young People for Democracy Essay Writing competition. The theme for the 2017 competition is:

How should Malawi sustainably preserve the country’s cultural heritage?

ELIGIBILITY/REQUIREMENTS

The essay writing competition is only open to young Malawians below the age of 30.
Only one entry per person will be accepted.

The essays will have to be written in English Essays must not exceed 1000 words, excluding citations and bibliography, if any. All essays must be typed using Arial or Times New Roman font, size 12. All essays must be in word format.
