Main Purpose of the Job : To facilitate efficient and effective Acquisition and cataloging services.

The duties and responsibilities are but not limited to:

Implementing and monitoring acquisition and cataloging policies, plans, standards, strategies and procedures.
Developing, evaluating and maintaining systems for acquisition and cataloging services.

Managing Library data and reporting on the utilization of the Library software systems.

Participating in professional networks.
Training and supervising Library Assistants in their job duties.
Assisting staff in collection development, cataloging, preparing and organizing Library materials according to established policies.
Assisting readers in finding books and help students and faculties in research problems and reference questions.
Addressing administrative issues like collecting fines and managing reservations.
Conducting Library promotional activities to attract more readers.
Recommending routine maintenances of Library equipment including computers, audio-visual devices, printer and photocopiers.
Managing Library inventory, performance stock checks and prepare items list for removal, relocation and binding.

Masters Degree/Bachelors Degree in Library Information Science or equivalent.
Those with experience in Koha and Library Solution Packages and NLM Schedules will have an added advantage.

Job Purpose: Support the Project Manager to accomplish project objectives.

Reports to: The Project Manager

Work Station: Luchenza, Thyolo.

Job Duties:

· Assist in the creation and delivery of project work plans and revise as appropriate.

· Identify resources and assign responsibilities as required.

· Supervise day-to-day operational aspects of the projects as required and report actions and outcomes to the Project Manager.

· Ensure project documents are complete, current, and appropriately stored.

· Contribute to the monthly project status report.

· Contribute to evaluation and monitoring of staff and project performance.

· Seek Project Manager approval for key decisions.

· In the absence of the Manager, act on his/her behalf and where needed, seek assistance from the Chair of Trustees in the UK.



Requirements:

Applicants must have the following attributes:

· Must have Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE), with strong credits in English and Mathematics.

· Good financial management, book keeping and administrative skills.

· Fluency in written and spoken English and Chichewa.

· Ability to work in adverse environment and with minimum or no supervision.

· Excellent Computer skills including hands on-experience with Microsoft Office package, internet etc.

TASK OBJECTIVES

The objective of this contract is to obtain the services from a reputed, experienced, and qualified contractor who can provide efficient repair and maintenance services to United Nations premises as set below in the scope of work.

SCOPE OF WORK.

The contractor shall provide General office maintenance, repairs and installation services for the following work in the United Nations properties:

i) General Maintenance works

ii) Carpentry and Joinery Services

iii) Plumbing Services

iv) Painting Services

v) Masonry works repairs

vi) Electrical Faults

Deliverables

Deliverables include the following:

Properly maintained office premises in terms of excellent functioning of all electrical circuits and bulbs, water pipes, sewerage systems and fixtures. Excellent glow of all interior walls and floors at all times.
Well maintained office furniture.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

The Contractor must demonstrate the following with sufficient details:

(a) Minimum five years continuous experience over the last five years in providing building and civil works maintenance services and/or construction works Similar to UNFPA’s requirement or (b) Building and civil works maintenance services and/or construction works carried out over the past seven years which cumulatively are Similar to UNFPA’s requirement.
Current registration with Malawi National Construction Industry Council (NCIC) as Building Contractor at minimum level of MK500,000.00 category or equivalent registration from relevant body from the country of origin (companies must provide explanation to prove equivalence). Registration can be with a public works authority of governmental ministry.
Details of the proposed staffs that have proven experience of providing services in aforementioned mentioned service/maintenance category e.g. Civil/Mechanical/Electrical Engineer, Architect, Project Manager, Plumbing Technician, Electrical Technicians etc.
A valid copy of the Contractor’s Trading Licence for the year 2016/17 or equivalent , a certified copy of the Contractor’s Company Certificate of Registration or equivalent and an Original of the Bidder’s Income Tax Clearance Certificate (2016/17) obtained from the Malawi Revenue Authority

TIMELINE:

The contract will be valid for a period of 2 years upon successful completion of six months trial period. The performance will be reviewed after one year. There is an option to extend for two additional consecutive years.

RESEARCH ASSISTANTS

 The Public Health Nutrition Research Group (PHNRG) in the Department of Public Health at the School of Public Health and Family Medicine (SPHFM) in the College of Medicine is looking for Research Assistants (Contractual Basis) to join their research project in Blantyre.

PHNRG is collaborating with Washington State University St. Louis, Cornell University Project Peanut Butter and Africare to evaluate a modified version of ready-to-use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) optimized for better neurocognitive developmental outcomes amongst severely/ acutely malnourished children. As part of this randomized clinical trial, PHNRG requires the services of research assistants to help conduct cognitive development assessments as part of the research study.

Duties and Responsibilities are but not limited to:

Planning and coordinating clinic visits for developmental assessments
Conducting developmental counseling to caretakers of severely malnourished children participating in the trial
Referring cases that are beyond his/her level and requiring special attention appropriately
Conducting research related interviews to study participants
Entering development assessment data in special programs

Qualifications and Experience

A first degree in any field from a recognized institution of the higher learning.
Post-qualification experience in research of not less than 3 years. Specific experience assessing development using the Malawi Development Assessment Tool (MDAT) and Eye Tracking will be definite advantage.
Proven ability to work independently, solve logistic and administrative problems, and in structured work time to meet deadlines.
English and Chichewa languages as well as knowledge of Yao would be useful
Must be prepared to work odd hours and away from home periodically.
Current registration with relevant professional bodies.
