 Position: Packaging Specialist

Illovo Sugar Malawi Limited wishes to recruit a Packaging Specialist to be based at Nchalo Mill but regularly travelling to Dwangwa Mill.

Reporting to; The Packaging Manager.

The successful candidate will be accountable for the provision of operational and technical maintenance services to the Packaging Stations at both Nchalo and Dwangwa Mills.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

- Managing mechanical, electrical andinstrumentation functions in the Packaging station whilst adhering to accepted engineering and quality standards.

- Implementing effective preventative maintenance systems to reduce packaging machinery down time.

- Maintaining optimal packaging spares and materials in order to achieve budgeted production targets on a sustainable basis.

- Providing technical and operational guidance to Packaging maintenance teams and Operators.

- Identifying and implementing continuous improvement initiatives in order to scale up production efficiency in the Packaging operations whilst meeting all Quality and Food Safety standards.

- Creating and maintaining a safe working environment by implementing effective SHE systems.

- Implementing and maintaining effective change control procedures for materials and machinery.

Qualification & Experience

- Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.

- In depth knowledge of engineering installations in Packaging industry.

- Sound experience of NPS and PMD Packing machines.

- Good interpersonal, analytical, problem solving, communication and supervisory skills.

- Must be computer literate and be proficient in Microsoft Office

- At least 5 years working experience as a Maintenance Foreman and preferably having worked in a food manufacturing industry.

Trainee Cargo Scanner Technician in the Administration Division.

Job Title: Cargo Scanner Technician (Trainee)


Location: Head Office (Msonkho House).

Reporting to: Fleet Services Manager

Grade: E3

Key Responsibilities:

- Providing corrective maintenance of mobile and fixed cargo scanners

- Providing on-time diagnosis of defective machine /tools.

- Providing details involving initial cause of trouble and possible counter measure to be implemented in order to reduce or eliminate re-occurrence.

- Utilizing all resources and monitors line condition in order to have smooth flow of production and achieve daily targets.

- On time replacement of certain important components such as the linear accelerator and detectors in the due course of the lifetime of the system

- Ensuring proper handling and disposal of materials and parts being replaced.

- Controlling usage and transfer of spare parts and generating corrective measures on defective ones.

- Maintaining repair records or history of equipment(s) /tools and checking sheets for easy retrieval for future repair reference

- Maintaining a master list for all jigs and fixtures for control purposes.

- Complying with requirements of the Road Traffic Directorate of Malawi incase of mobile scanners

- Complying with certification and licensing requirements on the usage of Scanners by Department of Environmental Affairs.

- Monitoring and ensuring Officers comply with national digital tachograph road safety requirements and ionizing radiation systems to meet national safety standards/regulations for radiation equipment e.g. shielding, exclusion zone, personnel safety programme including maximum radiation exposure limits (in consultation with national regulatory bodies in Malawi).

Qualifications:

Applicants should have the following qualifications:

- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or ICT Engineering or itsequivalent

- Ability to maintain electrical installations or mechanical engineering equipment

Experience:

Applicants should have experience in:

- Working in hostile and austere environment

- Installation and maintenance of Rapiscan equipment

- Asset management, stock planning and control

- Experience in heavy duty Cargo scanning

Knowledge:

Applicants must have knowledge of:

- Rapiscan systems and applications

- Fault finding, rectification and maintenance of Rapiscan Mobile systems

Reporting to the SHE Manager, the successful candidate will among other duties be required to:

- Ensure timely reporting on SHE practice and malpractice in the workplace

- Prepare and manage a gap analysis towards determine system shortfalls for remedial action

- Coordinate the Company’s Safety Health and Environmental Management System

- Coordinate the implementation of HSE programs in line with NOSA guidelines and applicable laws

- Attend to HSE and ISO related audits

- Identify and recommend feasible solutions of effluent and waste management problems

- Coordinate the implementation of training programs for all employees

- Ensure waste disposal is in line with SHE policy.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience

- The Candidate should be in possession of a degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or Health and Environmental Sciences

- Must be between 25 – 30 years of age

- 3 years’ experience in coordinating HSE & ISO programs in manufacturing industry

- Must have excellent communication, analytical and supervisory skills

- Should be able to work with minimum supervision
