| Key Responsibilities
Develop a clear understanding of COM strategic laboratory objectives and how these might be coalesced into a coherent CLF action plan
Scope, plan and manage the delivery of the assigned laboratory infrastructure and services
Develop, implement and maintain comprehensive quality assurance plan, comprehensive safety, waste disposal and security plans communications plans and supporting management systems needed to meet client needs
Work with the Project Coordinator (and CLF Management) to identify and develop infrastructure and equipment needs.
Supervise and support laboratory technicians within the CLF and collaborating laboratories
Develop and maintain an expert working knowledge of laboratory technology, quality assurance and management and therefore be a point of reference, information and expertise
Pro-actively manage the all aspects of the quality assurance plan to international laboratory accreditation standards
Manage the programme budget for laboratory equipment and other resources where designated/appropriate to do so.
COMPETENCIES REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE
Knowledge & Experience (including qualifications)
Preferred
Managing complex laboratory equipment operation, validation and maintenance.
Managing reagents and associated resources inventory and procurement
Coordinating laboratory experiments and placements for faculty, undergraduate and post graduate students, and visiting researchers
Managing multiple work-streams dealing with different experimental needs
Managing multiple stakeholders needs in laboratory setupEssential
A minimum of a Master of Sciences plus a four year Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Sciences, chemistry, Environmental sciences or related sciences
Experience of managing specific equipment for chemistry analysis and bioactivity studies
A minimum of more than 3 years at managerial/supervisory position.

Strong critical reasoning ability in order to think strategically, logically and clearly, and to take rational decisions and decisive action under pressure

Budgetary Responsibility
Overseeing budget allocation to laboratory equipment, reagents and consummables
Direct Reports
The post will have line management responsibility for a team of subordinates and Programme Support staff and will use Matrix management
