LABORATORY MANAGER

 Key Responsibilities

Develop a clear understanding of COM strategic laboratory objectives and how these might be coalesced into a coherent CLF action plan
Scope, plan and manage the delivery of the assigned laboratory infrastructure and services
Develop, implement and maintain comprehensive quality assurance plan, comprehensive safety, waste disposal and security plans communications plans and supporting management systems needed to meet client needs
Work with the Project Coordinator (and CLF Management) to identify and develop infrastructure and equipment needs.
Supervise and support laboratory technicians within the CLF and collaborating laboratories
Develop and maintain an expert working knowledge of laboratory technology, quality assurance and management and therefore be a point of reference, information and expertise
Pro-actively manage the all aspects of the quality assurance plan to international laboratory accreditation standards
Manage the programme budget for laboratory equipment and other resources where designated/appropriate to do so.

COMPETENCIES REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE

This is a two year contract..

Role Description

To identify patients for the CHAIN Network on Moyo NRU in Pediatric Special Ward and Pediatric Nursery (PN) or Pediatric Accidents & Emergency (A & E);
Collect clinical information and collect blood and fecal samples;
Participate in the day to day running of the ward assigned to;
Participate in the departments ward rounds in the AM hours;
Screen for new patients;
Provide clinical management of patients recruited for into the study and non-study patients and routine clinical departments and (research) protocol.

Clinical Duties and Responsibilities

To provide good quality clinical care to patients according to study protocols and ward protocols and to provide support to children and their parents
To be a member of the Medical Council of Malawi and be punctual at all times, and behave professionally at all times.
To maintain confidentiality of patients’ records and respect patients and their privacy and rights
To maintain infection control procedures at all times according to ward and hospital protocols
To keep a right balance between research and clinical care
To keep the patient / guardian / parent informed at all times
To keep clear and up-to- date patient records at all times
To take instruction from those in authority.

Research Duties and Responsibilities

To work closely with the other research team members and the Project Coordinator.
Assess patients with anthropometry and with physical examination assess for study eligibility, counsel and recruit according to the study protocol if eligible.
To perform diagnostic procedures, triage etc. according to SOPs.
Ensure study protocols are followed in the assessment, documentation and collection of biological samples from participants.
To solve queries and prepare reports as requested by the Project Coordinator
The completion of any further tasks deemed reasonable that the Project Coordinator may see fit to request from time to time.

Training
To participate in training and induction of new staff as required
Qualifications
