DRR SUPERVISORS (2 POSTS)

 GENERAL OBJECTIVE

The DRR Supervisor, under the guidance of the Head of Project and the sectoral support of the Technical Coordinator, will be responsible for implementation of DRR activities at field level and contributing to the mainstreaming of DRM amongst Action Against Hunger activities in Southern Malawi, particularly in Chikwawa and Blantyre

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

Objective 1: To implement DRM activities

To support DRR-related programs and projects, both new and established
To support the project manager in the design and follow up of DRR project activities and plans
To lead Participatory Capacity and Vulnerability Assessment (PCVA) process with the local communities to conduct disaster mapping processes
To support the development of Village Disaster Management Plans (VDMPs) in cooperation with local authorities and communities
To liaise with local government structures and district extension offices of DODMA especially for what concerns Village Contingency Plans
To supervisor field officers on the implementation of daily/weekly DRR workplans and report any issues to HoP
Objective 2: To contribute in mainstreaming Disaster Risk Reduction in all activities.

To participate in base technical meetings in order to identify gaps in DRM amongst different AAH programs
To participate in field events of other contracts upon the request of HoP in order to identify gaps in DRM messages and to propose solutions tackling these.
To facilitate DRM trainings for base staff and project stakeholders by the request of HoP and the technical coordinator and under their supervision.
Objective 3: Representation, reporting and internal knowledge building

Contribute in the development of DRM technical tools (training modules, ad hoc reports, capitalization reports, case studies…) upon the request of Head of Project
Participate in workshops and ad hoc meetings related to DRM upon the request of Head of Project and Technical Coordinator
Provide regular reports to the Head of Project on the implementation of activities and team issues

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in disaster risk management or social studies with a specific focus on community based response modalities/or a relevant field experience
At least 2 years’ experience working on disaster management projects in rural communities
Working with community based projects
Working alongside governmental structures
Working in multi-sector projects
Preferably 3+ years’ experience in an NGO
Proven experience in designing disaster management plans for rural communities
Demonstrated ability to build capacities

DESIRABLE SPECIFIC/ TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE
CBDRR approaches
Basic WASH approaches
PCVA methodologies
Community based disaster management plans
Impact of climate change on agriculture in Malawi
Broad knowledge of DRR core concepts applied to humanitarian and development sectors
Documented experience in a humanitarian or development agency
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
CONTRACT PACKAGE

Duties:

Provide thorough review of technical approach drafts and provide recommendations on gender integration.

A master’s degree in public health, gender studies, international development, or other relevant field preferred.
A minimum of 8 years of experience with public health programs, preferably in gender programming.
Experience designing, implementing, and overseeing gender programming that addresses SGBV.
Experience with international government-funded programs.
Possess excellent organizational, analytical, oral and written communications skills.
Fluency in English.
