| Reporting to FAWEMA Board, the Executive Director provides vision, leadership, programmatic and financial management and high level representation for FAWEMA under the Board’s direction. The Executive Director will head the FAWEMA Secretariat or Head Office based in Lilongwe, and oversee the day-to-day management of the organisation.
Specifically, the Executive Director will:
Lead development and implementation of FAWEMA Strategic plan in line with our vision, mission and objectives with guidance from the Board and in collaboration with staff and FAWEMA members.
Provide leadership and direction to Management, staff, FAWEMA members and alumni, setting the priorities of the organisation and creating a conducive environment for attracting, retaining and motivating professional staff and experts.
Represent FAWEMA in high level national, regional, and international fora, at donors partners, the government and collaborating stakeholder meetings to advocate for girls’ and women’s education.
Develop innovative and effective resource mobilisation strategies to facilitate programme implementation and ensure sustainability and stability of FAWEMA.
Provide guidance and oversight on monitoring, evaluation and documentation of the achievements as well as impact of FAWEMA programmes and activities in Malawi;
Conceptualise, develop and effectively execute FAWEMA’s strategic plans and programmes in line with FAWEMA and FAWE’s strategic objectives and ensure the implementation of programmes across the country;
Oversee the financial and programmatic functions of the organization.
Provide guidance to development and implementation of work plans and budgets, ensure prudent investments and expenditure of funds.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES
The ideal candidate should:
Have at least a Masters Degree either in Social Sciences, Education, Development Studies, Strategic Management, International Development Studies or any other development/ education related area.
Possess at least ten (5-10) years’ experience in a senior management position, preferably in a development and non-government organisation role.
Be a visionary leader with a demonstrated track record in strategic management, programme development, resource mobilisation, financial management, project implementation and monitoring and evaluation
Possess well developed networking and negotiation skills with the ability to develop strong collaborative partnerships and relationships with donors, high profile government officials, international and local partners.
Have a passion for girl-child education and be able to provide focused leadership in this area of development
Command presence, demonstrate sound decision-making and judgement capabilities, integrity, resilience and be self-driven
