Qualifications

Applicants should be in possession of a Diploma in Tourism Management obtained from recognized institutions.
Duties

Attend District Development Meetings; distribute literature;
inspect tourist establishments in the district; attend tourism fairs;
liaise with Immigration and Customs Officials in the district for better visitor’s management;
carry out awareness campaigns of tourism in the district, etc.

Background

The primary purpose of this program is to provide management support to USAID’s Malawi Scholarship Program (MSP) for Malawi professionals to pursue certificate, diploma/undergraduate and Master’s degree programs at universities in the United States, South Africa, Kenya and other Africa regional countries including training institutions within Malawi. The in-country portion of the MSP seeks to place 766 participants in certificate, diploma/first degree and Advanced Degree programs in Malawi in various health fields, such as Nursing, Family Planning/Reproductive Health, Midwifery, Food Science/Human Nutrition, and Pharmacy Assistant. The US and third-country (Africa region) program is placing 33 participants in Master’s degree programs in Public Health, Child Health, Neonatal Health, Family Planning/ Reproductive Health, and Nutrition.

World Learning seeks a Finance/Administrative Associate for the USAID-funded “Malawi Scholarship Program (MSP).”

Duration: 2 years.

Location: Lilongwe, Malawi.

This position will report to the Finance Manager and supports both the Finance and Program teams.

Responsibilities

Assist Finance Manager in responding to financial reporting requirements.
Assist in implementing a system for documentation control and filing.
Scanning large volumes of supporting documentation and transmitting the same to Home Office
Other activities as required by the Finance ‘Team, including data entry, scanning documents, etc.
Assist with office administrative tasks as required.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree or 3 years relevant office experience.
Strong computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets, databases and presentations).
Strong interpersonal, coordination and project management skills.
Strong written and oral communications.
Team player, able to work respectfully and cooperatively with colleagues.
Three years of practical experience in working with USAID or other donor-funded training and development programs, in a finance capacity highly desirable.
Knowledge of Procurement processes
Knowledge of Quick Books accounting system is a must.

Research Associate (Legume Breeding)

DESCRIPTION:

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) seeks a qualified candidate for the position of Research Associate to support IITA’s research and capacity building efforts in the areas of strategic foresight and priority setting. The Associate will work as a member of the social science and agribusiness research team in Southern Africa based in Lilongwe, Malawi.

In support of the legume breeding program, the primary responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

Assist the legume breeding program in field trial design, planting, trial evaluation, data collection and seed harvest
Manage many aspects of the legume breeding database including data entry, trial creation, and critical seed health and plant pathology data
Work closely with the administrative staff to effectively comply with all regulatory phytosanitary certifications and international seed shipment protocols
Manage and periodically update seed inventory
Receive and distribute seeds for basic seed production, variety trials, product development and deployment
Travel to off-site stations to assist with planting, thinning and product evaluation
Recruit and manage all temporary workers as needed.
Ensure compliance with all health & safety and regulatory standards.
Co-ordinate all pesticide, herbicide and irrigation applications to nursery and trial plots
Qualifications:

A minimum of BSc in agriculture crop science/horticulture, or related discipline and 2-3 years working in the area of agricultural research
MSc in plant breeding/agronomy will be desirable
Skills required:

Candidate should possess good interpersonal skills, be a team player, effective written and oral communication skills and working knowledge in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access
The candidate should be able to travel domestically, with some possibility of international travel
Ability to communicate with field supervisors is a plus
The ability to work outdoors in hot and sunny conditions
