| General Description of Programme:
Background
GOAL has been operating in Malawi since 2002, initially in an emergency capacity, concentrating on food distributions, but the focus of the programme has gradually evolved into health and livelihoods development programmes mainly. Notwithstanding, given the hazard prone nature of the environment, GOAL retains an emergency response capacity and undertakes significant and complementary programming in disaster risk reduction. GOAL Malawi’s strategic goal is to improve health; support the protection and promotion of resilient livelihoods and food security; and ensure vulnerable children and youth are no longer marginalised in rural and urban Malawi.
To achieve this goal, GOAL focuses on the following objectives:
Livelihood security – to protect and promote resilient livelihoods and food security to ensure adequate food access and availability and utilisation before, during and post disaster risk.
Health Security – an improved population health with a particular focus on maternal child health outcomes (MDG 4 and 5) in country programmes using a public health approach, with an increased resilience to health risk following disasters.
Both objectives are in line with Government’s own developments priorities, namely the MGDS II, donor priorities and they tie in with GOAL’s global strategy. In addition, Gender, HIV, Environment and child protection are mainstreamed across all of GOAL’s programmes. A wide variety of GOAL’s programmes, including nutrition, WASH, cholera prevention, etc. include behaviour change elements. GOAL is supported by a number of donors including Irish Aid, DFID, USAID and GOAL. And is looking to fill the following vacancy
