| The Malawi Epidemiology and Intervention Research Unit (formerly Karonga Prevention Study) is a medical research programme, operating in Karonga District, and Lilongwe City. We conduct research on non-communicable diseases, tuberculosis epidemiology, HIV/AIDS and demography. The research programme is a partnership between the Malawi College of Medicine and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. The programme works closely with the Ministry of Health, with its research agenda aligned to Ministry of Health priorities.
The programme is developing capacity in NCD research, health informatics and epidemiology, and other areas, principally through the College of Medicine, and forging links with other institutions in the region with a view to conduct multi-country studies. Research is done in partnerships and in highly conducive academic environments. We are seeking a Scientific Administrator to be based at our Lilongwe Office, who will be responsible for supporting a multicentre data analysis project, the African Non-communicable Disease Longitudinal data Alliance (ANDLA), through facilitating communications between partners, arranging meetings, taking minutes, writing reports and facilitating and monitoring delivery on targets and scientific outputs.
Other duties will include:
general support in grant proposal submission processes, contract and grant administration, and budget development.
He/she will also be required to facilitate manuscript submission processes and maintain a database of publications.
He/she will also be required to familiarise himself/herself with the basic administrative processes and accounting systems of the Lilongwe office in order to provide support and cover absence of the office administrator.
The applicant will work closely with the Lilongwe Administrator, Senior Scientists both from the MEIRU programme, and collaborators from international institutions.
Requirements
The ideal candidate should:
have a minimum of a Bachelor’s qualification in Business Studies/ Administration or Accounting or relevant Science with appropriate experience in project management.
Good oral and written communication skills and demonstrable organisational skills will be essential.
