 1. Introduction

The Nkhoma University (NKHUNI) is a new private University which has within a relatively short period of time become one of the important players in tertiary education in Malawi. It has already achieved a prominent ranking position within the Malawian context. It also aims to be internationally accepted and locally relevant. It is further hoped that with the necessary and sustainable comprehensive development, this University, will become one of the universities of choice in Malawi.

2. The Context and Description

The University was established by the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) Nkhoma Synod; in 2013 with an enrolment of 53 students. In the year 2016; the student population had grown to 850 students. NKHUNI and all its five programmes have been accredited by the Malawi Government through the National Council of Higher Education (NCHE) in the three Faculties of Education, Commerce and Theology. As a possible fourth academic faculty, the Nkhoma Nursing College is, parallel to its existing Diploma and Certificate programmes, considering and preparing an accreditation application for a university degree to be offered to qualifying students.

The mission of Nkhoma University is to provide an opportunity for learning to students, enabling them to understand the academic disciplines in a very professional manner and be inspired by the Word of God with its implications for living, character building and service in all God honouring vocations. The University upholds the basic tenets of the Christian faith.

Position Purpose

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for but not be limited to the following:

Coordinating and monitoring the usage of tool of trade vehicles.
Planning and coordinating tool of trade vehicle servicing to ensure smooth departmental operations.
Assisting the Agronomy Technical Manager in developing, executing and monitoring effective operational strategies.
Documenting, summarizing and submitting program status reports.
Supporting Corporate Affairs & Communications Department on Grower support programs in liaison with District Managers.
Participating in the implementation and operation of the ERP system enhancements.
Key qualifications and skills required

A minimum of a Diploma in Agriculture or business related field. However, degree holders will have an added advantage.
A minimum of 3 years work experience in the Malawian tobacco sector.

Agronomy Technical Specialist.

Position Purpose

The role is responsible for supporting and coordinating JTI and Agronomy Technical programs, International Organization for Standardization (ISO) programs and internal audits to ensure that JTI conducts its operations in a manner that adheres to international standards to produce tobacco of high integrity. The position reports to the Agronomy Technical Manager.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

Coordinating live barn projects to ensure that all targets are achieved with great quality and low mortality rates.
Coordinating all trainings related to agronomy and leaf production.
Coordinating all internal and third party agroforestry and agronomy audits, assessing the impact of the audits and validating the data and findings.
Ensuring minimum quality ISO standards and Sustainable Tobacco Production (STP) requirements are met.
Submitting monthly reports to the line manager on data for crop throw, crop estimates, bill of inputs, forestry and agronomy input purchases.
Coordinating final field crop estimates and crop throw results.

Key qualifications and skills required

A minimum of Bachelor of Science Degree in Forestry/ Agriculture
A minimum of 3 years’ experience in Agroforestry, Socio Forestry and general Agronomy.

Skills, Competencies and Languages

Excellent written and spoken English and the ability to communicate in vernacular language.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office packages and internet.
Good communication and team work skills.
Excellent supervisory and planning skills.

Seasoned Marketing Co-ordinators (2 Posts)

Position purpose

The role is responsible for working with the grower associations to ensure the supply of tobacco from the growers to the auction floors as well as coordinating the sales of all JTI malawi contracted tobacco that has been presented at auction floors.

The position reports to the District Manager.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

Assisting in the implementation of the marketing plan for all the districts based on the Grower Association’s delivery quotas for smooth sales.
Liaising with the Leaf Quality and Factory Operations personnel on sales levels, transport requirements and buyer requirements for each sale.
Preparing reports on monthly, weekly and daily sales plans to aid effective implementation of sales and delivery.
To report any marketing inconstancies and inefficiencies to the district manager.
Pre-booking auction floors for bale offloading in liaison with the grower associations.
Monitoring and following up on bale off loading, receiving and laying to ensure that all contracted tobacco is duly stocked and laid without diversion.
Representing the company during delivery meetings, sales meetings, and internal association meetings.

Qualifications and Experience

A minimum of a Diploma in Business Administration or any other related field from a recognized institution.
Experience in a sirnof role within the tobacco sector will be an added advantage

Skills, Competencies and Experience

Excellent written and spoken English and the ability to communicate in vernacular languages
Knowledge of the rules and regulations governing contract farming of tobacco and the contracted tobacco marketing system.
Proficiency in Miscrosoft Office packages and internet
Good communication and team work skills
Excellent leadership and planning skills
Good at decision making
