 Introduction

The Evangelical Lutheran Development Service (ELDS) is a development service arm of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Malawi (ELCM). It was established in 1989 in response to a request from ELCM and Malawi Government, primarily to assist the Mozambican Refugees who were in Malawi then. ELDS is registered with CONGOMA and NGO Board and is operational in nine districts namely Chikwawa, Neno and Phalombe in south, Dowa, Dedza, Kasungu and Salima in Centre, Karonga and Chitipa in the north. ELDS is a member of ACT ALLIANCE and works in rural areas to reduce human suffering and poverty through sustainable development (food and nutrition security; Micro-finance; Value Addition and Marketing; Water, Sanitation and Hygiene; Health Services in Maternal and Child Health, Malaria and Trachoma Elimination; Environmental Management and Climate Change; HIV and AIDS, Psychosocial, Gender, Human Rights and advocacy) and humanitarian work (Disaster Risk Management). With support and funding from CARE International in Malawi through Global Affairs Canada CARE, The Evangelical Lutheran Development Service (ELDS) is implementing a four year Southern Africa Nutrition Initiative (SANI) Project in Dowa District in Traditional Authorities Dzoole and Kayembe. The Southern Africa Nutrition Initiative (SANI) project aims to improve the nutritional status of women of reproductive age (15-49 years) and children under 5 years in Malawi, Mozambique and Zambia. The goal of the SANI project is to improve the nutritional status of women of reproductive age, boys and girls under 5 years.
ELDS is therefore recruiting competent staff to fill the following vacant position;

Finance Assistant

Reporting to Finance Manager.

Key Responsibilities

Preparation of monthly, quarterly and yearly Project reports;
Maintaining and updating fixed asset register for all projects;
Responsible for checking and Ensuring that ELDS is tax compliant by ensuring all relevant tax have been applied to all payments and remitted to Malawi Revenue Authority timely;
Providing support to ELDS Project officers on Finance and budgets to implement the projects activities effectively and efficiently;
Assisting in preparation of annual project proposal budgets and ensuring that all budgets are entered into ACCPAC;
Banking and Bank reconciliation’s;
Preparation of Salaries and all bank correspondence i.e. International and Local Funds transfers;
Providing an analysis of expenditure for each particular month to the Finance and Projects Coordinator ;and
Making of all petty cash payments and safe key custodian.

Qualification and Experience

Applicants should have the following:

PAEC Diploma or its equivalent with at least 2 years post qualification work experience in a reputable organization

Driver

Responsibilities and Duties

Driving office vehicle on authorized assignments.
Effective Pick-ups of documentation and personnel from different locations.
Ensure that the assigned vehicle is in good running condition, reporting any fault for immediate attention
Efficient use of motor vehicle fuel, ensure that fuel utilized is well reconciled with mileage covered
Performing any other duties as assigned from time to time

Qualifications

A minimum of Malawi Junior Certificate of Education or its equivalent. Those with MSCE or equivalent will have an added advantage
A clean class Cl driving license and defensive driving certificate
Motor vehicle skills demonstrated by possession of at least Grade 3 Motor Vehicle Mechanic (MVM) Certificate will be an added advantage.

Other Attributes

Ability to organize effective pic-ups of documentation and people from different locations on a single trip
Ability to analyze the use of fuel vehicles and the use of fuel by vehicles and the use of log books
Proven knowledge of regions/ districts in Malawi
Knowledge of the use of 2 — way
Demonstrated computer skills in Word , Excel, Microsoft Outlook
A clear understanding of traffic rules
Readiness to drive through tough conditions and should be prepared to work odd hours
Good communication skills.

MINIMUM QUALITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS OF THE IDEAL CANDIDATE include.

Bachelor’s Degree in Accountancy with at least 5 years experience at a similar level,
Those studying towards professional qualification of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Malawi (ICAM) or equivalent qualification and/or are members of CAM or equivalent professional body of accountants will have an added advantage.
Profound knowledge In payroll, financial and management accounting as well as regulator,/ framework within the accounting system
Ethical and mature with a high level of integrity, honesty and confidentiality. Team player with strong communication skills
