| Introduction
The Evangelical Lutheran Development Service (ELDS) is a development service arm of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Malawi (ELCM). It was established in 1989 in response to a request from ELCM and Malawi Government, primarily to assist the Mozambican Refugees who were in Malawi then. ELDS is registered with CONGOMA and NGO Board and is operational in nine districts namely Chikwawa, Neno and Phalombe in south, Dowa, Dedza, Kasungu and Salima in Centre, Karonga and Chitipa in the north. ELDS is a member of ACT ALLIANCE and works in rural areas to reduce human suffering and poverty through sustainable development (food and nutrition security; Micro-finance; Value Addition and Marketing; Water, Sanitation and Hygiene; Health Services in Maternal and Child Health, Malaria and Trachoma Elimination; Environmental Management and Climate Change; HIV and AIDS, Psychosocial, Gender, Human Rights and advocacy) and humanitarian work (Disaster Risk Management). With support and funding from CARE International in Malawi through Global Affairs Canada CARE, The Evangelical Lutheran Development Service (ELDS) is implementing a four year Southern Africa Nutrition Initiative (SANI) Project in Dowa District in Traditional Authorities Dzoole and Kayembe. The Southern Africa Nutrition Initiative (SANI) project aims to improve the nutritional status of women of reproductive age (15-49 years) and children under 5 years in Malawi, Mozambique and Zambia. The goal of the SANI project is to improve the nutritional status of women of reproductive age, boys and girls under 5 years.
ELDS is therefore recruiting competent staff to fill the following vacant position;
Gender and Governance Facilitator
Reporting to the District Coordinator The Gender and Governance Facilitator is expected to perform the following tasks;
Facilitate capacity building of local communities for gender dialogues.
Promote gender through integration in various cluster meetings and counseling visits.
Facilitate capacity building of local communities to embrace gender-inclusive participatory governance and accountability.
Identify problems arising as a result of unequal power relations and liaise with communities on how to address them.
Develop work plans and monitor activities to ensure objectives and targets are met and achieved.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES
Academic Qualifications;
University Diploma in gender, Human rights and governance related fields
Working knowledge of English and in local language spoken at district level
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Proficiency in Micro-soft Office including Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook
Technical Competencies and Experience Required;
Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in gender and governance issues at community level
Ability to work in rural settings
Good knowledge of Government systems and structures
Excellent communication and team building skills
Able to ride a motor cycle
