The Job

Reporting to the Workshop Foreman, the successful candidates will be required to; Service of company vehicles to predetermined standard and checklists.

Attend to breakdowns and carry out the necessary repairs.
Apply health and safety rules and regulations in all aspects of the job.
Ensure vehicles are kept in roadworthy condition as required by law and company policy
Maintain a safe and clean working place at all times.
Administer regular reporting to management regarding breakdowns, services, etc
Perform ancillary duties to the above as may be assigned from time to time.

MINIMUM QUALITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS OF THE IDEAL CANDIDATE include:

Must have a minimum of Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) Grade l National Trade Test Certificate.
Minimum of three years hands on experience in a similar position in a busy organization. Those with experience in plants will have an added advantage
Must understand and practice preventive maintenance
Able to work independently and problem solving

AGRICULTURE AND VSLA OFFICER (2 POSITIONS)

 INTRODUCTION

The Evangelical Lutheran Development Service (ELDS) is a development service arm of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Malawi (ELCM). It was established in 1989 in response to a request from ELCM and Malawi Government, primarily to assist the Mozambican Refugees who were in Malawi then. ELDS is registered with CONGOMA and NGO Board and is operational in nine districts namely Chikwawa, Neno and Phalombe in south, Dowa, Dedza, Kasungu and Salima in Centre, Karonga and Chitipa in the north. ELDS is a member of ACT ALLIANCE and works in rural areas to reduce human suffering and poverty through sustainable development (food and nutrition security; Micro-finance; Value Addition and Marketing; Water, Sanitation and Hygiene; Health Services in Maternal and Child Health, Malaria and Trachoma Elimination; Environmental Management and Climate Change; HIV and AIDS, Psychosocial, Gender, Human Rights and advocacy) and humanitarian work (Disaster Risk Management). With support and funding from CARE International in Malawi through Global Affairs Canada CARE, The Evangelical Lutheran Development Service (ELDS) is implementing a four year Southern Africa Nutrition Initiative (SANI) Project in Dowa District in Traditional Authorities Dzoole and Kayembe. The Southern Africa Nutrition Initiative (SANI) project aims to improve the nutritional status of women of reproductive age (15-49 years) and children under 5 years in Malawi, Mozambique and Zambia. The goal of the SANI project is to improve the nutritional status of women of reproductive age, boys and girls under 5 years.
ELDS is therefore recruiting competent staff to fill the following vacant position;

Agriculture and VSLA Officer (2 Positions)

Reporting to the District Coordinator, the Agriculture and VSLA Officer is expected to perform the following tasks;

Promotion of nutrition-sensitive, climate-smart and conservation agriculture at community level
Facilitate monthly meetings with Village Agents and Lead Farmers to create gender-inclusive Farmer Clubs
Facilitate logistical and technical support to Lead Farmers to train Farmer Clubs.
Facilitate meetings of Lead Farmers, AEDOs and CDAs.
Facilitate establishment of Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLAs) and Field Farmer Schools.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

Academic Qualifications;

University Diploma in Agriculture, Food Security/Nutrition
Working knowledge of English and in local language spoken at district level
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Proficiency in Micro-soft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook

Technical Competencies and Experience Required;

Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in food and nutrition security projects or programmes
Proven experience in community mobilization
Experience in micro-finance initiatives with emphasis on VSLAs
Good knowledge of Government systems and structures
Excellent communication and team building skills
Ability to work in rural settings
Able to ride a motor cycle

DIRECTOR OF EXAMINATION AND REGISTRATION PROGRAMS

 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Coordinate with the team of invigilators with the support of the Education and Examinations Officer
Organize the collection of registration and examination fees in liaison with the Director of Finance
Ensure nursing and midwifery staff return are received every quarter and work in liaison with the IT officer for data base update and provide the office of the Registrar with quarterly Nursing and Midwifery cadre statistics.
Provide technical support to update level blue prints in liaison with examiners/ moderators; review and edits all content in new forms of examinations for reliability with blue prints.
Evaluating sites for examinations and the associated instructions provided to candidates as provided by the Council; oversees process involved in mailing examinations to selected sites to ensure security and confidentiality.
Promoting communication between institutions on minimum expectations of the Council on nursing education through regulations pertaining to nursing and midwifery programs and registration and examination.
Organizing and servicing the Education and Examination Standing Committee; submits reports on the examinations conducted by hospitals, institutions, or other premises where examinations are conducted for students who intend to apply for registration under the Act.
Planning, implementing and evaluating nursing and midwifery education and examination workshops and seminars for tutors/examiners/moderators to ensure programs reflect the highest standard of modem nursing and midwifery education both entry level to professional nursing and for advanced practice of specialty.
Communicating results of examinations to candidates, educational institutions, members of Council and other appropriate officials.
Conducting sensitization meeting’s on Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and feedback sessions on CPD findings.
Ensuring that all nurses and midwives practicing in Malawi are registered and attained the required CPD points to renew their license; be vigilant in collection of registration fees and production of defaulters’ list annually
Ensuring that the data-base for all practicing and licensed nursing and midwifery providers (at all levels) is updated accurately, to ably inform and give a strategic direction to the Ministry of Health — Human Resources Planning Department and other relevant stakeholders
Conducting verification procedures for nurses and midwives trained abroad and orientation of nurses and midwives trained abroad and within.
Preparing and submitting annual work plans with budgets for the Division to the Registrar in coordination with the other members of the Management team
Writing project proposal for funding of Departmental projects
Performs any other duties as might be assigned by Registrar from time to time

Qualification, Skills and Competencies

Masters Degree in Nursing and Midwifery Education related discipline from a recognized University; with five years work experience at a nursing and midwifery training. Those that have a nursing and midwifery education qualification will have an added advantage
At least five years experience working in Nursing and Midwifery Training/ health institutions and with monitoring and evaluation exposure in nursing and midwifery services will be considered.
High level of interpersonal, communication and managerial skills
Excellent knowledge in English language and writing skills
Strong planning, and organizational skills
High level of presentation, facilitation and analytical skills

Role Purpose
This role is responsible for carrying out routine and non-routine analyses of water and plant samples and conduct investigation work. Uses specialised equipment and advanced analytical techniques. Assist in the development of new analytical techniques. Assist in training of laboratory assistants where necessary. Assists in the installation of equipment and is responsible for repairing and servicing laboratory instruments and equipment.

Specifically the Laboratory Technician will be

Responsible for sample preparation & analysis of process plant samples on day to day basis as per appropriate standard operating procedures.
Assist in environmental monitoring through analysis of environmental samples
Responsible for potable and cooling tower water treatment and testing
To ensure accuracy and precision on all laboratory results being produced.
Under the direction of the Chief Chemist produce laboratory reports on daily basis. Calibration and operating instruments like ICP, UV-Vis spectrometer, PH meter, EC-TDS meter, XRF spectrometer, Analytical balances, ion analyser, furnaces etc for performing qualitative & quantitative analysis with accuracy and precession.
Preparation and standardisation of volumetric solutions.
Responsible for the safe handling and disposal of laboratory wastes.
Carry out other duties as required or directed by the Chief Chemist.

Qualifications/Experience

University Degree in Chemistry or Environmental Science and technology
Minimum 2 years’ experience in analytical laboratory as laboratory technician with experience in process plant or mining will be preferred.
Knowledge of operating procedures for ICP, XRF, UV-Vis spectrometer, pH meter and EC-TDS
Experience in operation of ICP, XRF, UV-Vis spectrometer will be an added advantage.
