| Project Support Officer- Emergency Preparedness Project — (2 based in Mangochi & 2 Based in Nsanje)
Job Purpose
Concern Worldwide (CWW), in partnership with COOPI, are implementing an ECHO funded innovative emergency preparedness project with an aim to support the Malawi’s Disaster Risk Management (DRM) system at national level and the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) in disaster preparedness at district level, focusing on Mangochi and Nsanje districts. The PSO’s will lead the implementation of targeting, emergency preparedness, response, recovery and resilience building activities in Mangochi and Nsanje District, and support partners and their field staff to design, plan and implement the project activities.
Responsibilities and Tasks
Organize and facilitate the training of partner staff on innovative participatory targeting and registration approaches for emergency preparedness, response, recovery and resilience building Implement the emergency preparedness, response, recovery and resilience building interventions
Directly implement activities together with consortium partner, COOPI, and local partners on Disaster Risk Management (DRM), including Early Warning Systems (EWS) Ensure that field activities are implemented in line with the project agreement, including hazard mapping, emergency preparedness and contingency planning, with full participation of the communities and other stakeholders
Develop the project Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) plans and carry out the M&E actions in collaboration with the Project Manager and other Concern Worldwide field staff
Prepare daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly plans and report on her/his activities.
Credentials and Experience
Diploma or Degree in Disaster Management and Humanitarian Response/Agriculture/ Crop Production/ Agricultural Extension/ Plant Science/ Soil Science/ Horticulture
At least 2 years’ experience in Humanitarian Response, DRR and participatory project implementation
Expertise in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR)/DRM
Basic knowledge in Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS)/VVASH
Experience in practical use of participatory approaches including PVCA
Candidates must be prepared to work irregular hours in the field in order to fit in with the farmers’ workloads. Time off in lieu will be provided.
Candidates must be prepared to ride a motorcycle and should have a full motorbike license. Appropriate motorcycles will be provided for female riders.
Report writing ability.
